About

Women and Film History International is a network of affiliated scholars, researchers, archivists, and film programmers, all dedicated to the study of women’s film history. The organization has maintained a special focus on the period before synchronous sound through two key scholarly endeavors: the international conference WOMEN AND THE SILENT SCREEN, and the source books created by the WOMEN’S FILM HISTORY PROJECT (formerly known as the WOMEN FILM PIONEERS PROJECT). The University of Illinois Press series, also called WOMEN AND FILM HISTORY INTERNATIONAL, was established to further explore the history of cinema using a gender-specific approach. Through these gatherings and publications, the organization continues to function as an umbrella for research on women’s film history across all decades.
